Gold leafing has been around for alot longer then most people would imagine. The craft of gold leafing in which leafs of gold are applied to objects for ornamentation, goes back some 4000 years to Northern Africa where at that time gold foil was applied to wood to give appearance of being made of solid gold. Gold leafing today used in the automotive industry by sign painters serves a similar purpose.
