MOONEYES 1960 TOYOPET (TOYOTA) CROWN
Displayed at Mooneyes USA is a custom rod worth mentioning here on Moon News. At first glance most people are mystifiedat what kind of car it actually is. It’s obvious body lines look rather Mid 50′s Chevy but the size of thisHot Rod is what will leave you guessing it’s origin. It’s small and it’s also debadged, further adding to it’s mystery.
Most people are surprised to learn it is actually a 1960 Toyota Crown! The car is painted in of course our trademark yellow, fitted with some custom built Boyd rims, GM ZZ3 V8 engine, lowered using springs and spindles, Mustang II front suspension. We once took this it too Pomona for the Father’s day show too see if people liked it or what therereaction was. We had many compliments and phone calls afterwards asking what kind of vehicle it was. In 1996 Custom Rodder Magazine ran a story on it with a photo of it on the front cover and 5 pages inside.
Despite it’s small exterior the interior is quite roomy and the suicide doors make for an exotic entry way. As you can imagine with a V8 and our cross ram injection system combined with it’s light weight, makes this car really move! The Engine is Moon Equipped with SB Chevy Valve covers, breathers, and a recovery tank. The interior was re-upholstered and the dash redone with Moon Gauges ,brushed aluminum accents and the famous yellow keeping the car Mooneyes theme.
The car is currently displayed here at Mooneyes ,so be sure to come down and check it out.
